Explosion!

As I was standing at the bus stop this morning something odd was happening. All the big bendy b-line buses that usually head down Broadway were rerouted to 12th Ave and were trying to turn onto Oak. It was madness! But in my morning sleepiness I didn't think much of it.

UNTIL I got to work and Jabba told me about how she had trouble sleeping last night and was lying there with a bad sore throat in the middle of the night when she heard a crazy explosion! Turns out a Taco Del Mar and Starbucks blew up on Broadway a few blocks from where we both live! That explained the crazy bus action. It didn't explain why I had a completely uninterrupted sleep for the first time in a long time though.

I kind of forgot about all of this until I got home today. It was such a beautiful day here and I got home earlier than usual so I decided I should go walk down to the site of the explosion and take pictures for my blog. I put my jacket on and headed out.

The problem was that the sun was setting and I couldn't keep my eyes off the beautiful Vancouver skyline. It was a clear day and the sun was hitting all the buildings downtown in the most amazing way. Picture me walking towards the disaster zone but not looking ahead, instead I am staring sideways towards the beauty of the sunset. I decided to take a quick detour.

Here are my photos:

1. This was taken as I veer off Broadway towards the water.

2. This was a little peak through the buildings towards the skyline. Unfortunately my picture is fuzzy.

3. Ohh I'm getting closer!

4. Sorry about the fuzziness, but you get the idea. Hey for all you folks out east - no snow!

5. The sun was almost gone at this point.

6. This is a little dog park where a few cute pups were running around.

7. This honestly takes my breath away.

8. A closer look towards BC place. These pictures do it no justice. Next time I will take my manual camera.

So finally I head towards the site of the explosion. The authorities suspect arson. Everyone is saying that the taco place was trying to sell and couldn't get a good price so it looks like an act of desperation. Hard to say.

This is a horrible picture that shows very little. The starbucks sign is off at this point. There were a TON of people on the street though and I tried to take a picture of the news trucks and anchors. Here it is:

Yea....I need to improve my photography skills.

Here's a better shot from the net:

Anyways I have permission to post the cute baby pic. Since it's at work look for it later on V-day! And Yes Moni, little B is the cutest toddler alive! And Kennyb you better call me when you're in Vancouver!

omg!!! picture 7 is my friends 2 minute walk away back yard. I have the exact same picture....Unless that is a very common scene shot for Van. However, if thats the same walkway that takes you straight to Granville, then thats the one I have too....

Yes...my BC friend confirmed that this is the starbucks we ventured to daily. Wouldnt it be funny if you lived in the same complex area that he does??
