what's on my ipod right now - part five

This is part five of what's on my ipod right now. In case your curious, here are the previous posts:

Okay this is in no way a new album at all. It's been out for awhile and the song "Weighty Ghost" made it on to a few of my mix C.D.'s last year, but lately I've been listening to the whole album and it is super solid. A great mix of upbeat and mopey at the same time. Hard to explain but rock it on the bus on your ipod and you'll see what I mean. Song that is standing out to me right now "Oblivion".

Again, this album came out last fall, but I only got into it after Christmas (I forgot to check it out when it was released). It's a great girl pop-rock album and one of those albums that every song is pretty much super solid. You can't go wrong with this on your ipod. Check out "Magic" if you can.

I got this album around the same time as the Ladyhawke album and it was amazingness overload! The songs are good. "Queen of Apology" caught my ear first. I'm embarrassed to say that I caught onto this band from watching one of those Geico commercials with the caveman. The song "Hurt You" was playing. Funny, I haven't seen it since.

Thanks to a tip from Jabba on the release of this new Junior Boys album....oh wait actually it turns out it's not coming out for a few weeks! April 9th to be exact, but I've heard the album and hands down the first song "Parallel Lines" is the best. It builds up and is totally a Junior Boys classic. I think I will have to listen to this album over and over to really experience it. I'd recommend this album to Miss Ash.

This one should come as no surprise as I just mentioned them in my last post. I love this album already and I just got it yesterday. These guys know how to do electro-pop (if that's even what they are, I am terrible at classifying music). The song "Bad Choices" is my current favorite but I'm sure that will change in a few hours....sigh.

Again, not exactly a shocker that I love this EP as I mentioned it a few posts back. This album is pretty somber though so be warned. I realized that they kind of remind me of a more modern version of Radiohead. Again, can't beat that horn and piano combo. I really like the song "Insects".

I've probably listened to this album the least but want to get into it more. Heidi mentioned them to me and I remembered I had them on my itunes but hadn't given them much play. When I did, I liked what I heard. The song "Fuck You It's Over" is probably the stand out right now, but I need to keep listening. Maybe on the bus tomorrow morning.

The first six songs of this album make you feel like you're watching band practice at some highschool. It's very horn-based and old school. Kind of neat, kind of weird. Then suddenly, the second half of the album breaks into awesomeness with the song "My Night With A Prostitute From Marseilles". An acquired taste but I love it!

I've forced a lot of people to listen to this album to mixed reviews. It's very low key I will admit. But all the songs start out with really simple guitar that gets added to suddenly by a chorus and/or strings/brass. I think that's damn cool. Plus the lyrics are amazing and this is coming from a girl who is not into lyrics. Like how can you not love these "And your the kindling still that burns below my heart, your the memory now that lives across the world, while the wind howls low and tries to steal my hours, you're the hooves that lead me through the forest." Sigh. Jesus Christ. Soon I'm gonna think it's acceptable for a guy to play me his guitar or read me some poetry.

Okay yet another EP I have already mentioned. But the song "Wood" which is on my playlist is blowing me away. Sure he digitizes his voice (which is weird because his full length album is so raw) but he sings full acapella and keeps building and layering his own voice over itself. At one point in the background his voice is almost like a wolf howling. Super amazing. And again with the lyrics "I'm up in the woods, I'm down on my mind, I'm building a still, to slow down the time." Just keeps singing it over and over.

Wow you're still reading? Because I have more to say actually. I wanted to go check out Plants and Animals this Wednesday and even convinced my friend Dave to go with me (again) but then tickets were sold out. I'm thinking instead I will convince him to see this movie:

What do you think? They even play a Wintersleep song in the preview.

PS I have no idea what happened to the font on this post. Sorry folks.

Ah, Rawbean I love your music posts. I'm listening to the new SO4 stuff right now, so good.
I'll be checking out everything on your list in due time.......as usual!
That Ladyhawke album - top notch. It's getting the most play these days on my Ipod as well.

You should totally go see that movie! I'm interested as well, but I think I would cry through the entire thing.

I def want to see that film. It's motorcycles, the meaning of life, and the Rockies. What more could you ask for?? And it was filmed in BC. Looks great.

Oops, I meant to say also: your music line-up looks amazing. I don't usually check out too much new music, because it makes me feel depressed about how little time there is to listen to good music. But it's too tempting, so thanks for doing much of the legwork! Hehe...
