Why? Well life has just been so busy. I had a crazy deadline at work last Monday that had me working 16 hours of overtime last weekend. At the age of 33, that has a real effect on me and it's hard to recover from. I took a morning off last week to try and recover, as well as the day today, but I still need more of a break. I'm thinking a week's vacation. It's been over a year.
I don't usually talk about work, but working on a huge project without the proper resources is really getting old. It's crazy what I have to pull off sometimes and still there are people standing, critiquing. I feel like yelling "excuse me, I just coordinated 50,000 sqft of space by myself (virtually)" Anyways, enough of that. I'm also sensitive. Maybe they really aren't critiquing.
On Friday night, although completely tired, I headed out to White Rock for a birthday drink with friends (not my birthday) and I picked up a waffle iron and my sister-in-law on the way.
On Saturday I ran some errands which included buying groceries for a brunch I hosted on Sunday. I had to get this all done before a friend came and picked me up for my first Whitecaps soccer (football) game. We got off to a shaky start by arriving late, not finding a parking spot and losing the tickets, but as a result we got a free Whitecaps scarf (luckily my friend is a season ticket holder). When we sat down, I noticed we were right beside one of the partners at my firm - what are the odds? I sat next to his wife who was very sweet. The game started out with Vancouver getting their ass kicked and they were down 3-0. They scored one point and with five minutes left, fans started leaving. But wait, in the last five minutes TWO more goals were scored and we tied the game. The crowd went crazy.
And boy, soccer fans in Canada are trying to be like Europeans I think. One guy a few seats over just stood and heckled a guy on the other team who was warming up the entire game. He kept saying "Fuck you!", giving him the double finger and yelling "You run like a girl number 24" it was crazy. The player was oblivious. Couldn't hear this guy at all. The best was when a small boy (less than 2 years old) turned around and just stared at the heckler. He was so cute and piercing with his blond hair and blue eyes. That shut up the heckler. Other than that, people were yelling all over the place, stomping, chanting. It was hilarious. I would go back, if only for the cute guys in the crowd. Now I know where they all go on a Saturday.
Check out these highlights from the game:
After the game, the plan was to go home and clean for my 9 guests coming over the next morning. But I couldn't do it. I had to sleep. And I did, going to bed at like 8pm.
I got up at......5:30am on Sunday, cleaned and started prepping for my waffle breakfast (with bacon). My friend Tiina came over to help (THANK GOD! Did I mention she also helped me on my project at work - she works there too, a true friend). The breakfast went over pretty well. The waffles were good - but I still feel like I have a lot of room for improvement. Luckily my friends are patient. They ate two packs of bacon and were looking for more. Who are these people? Guys love their salty meats.
Anyways, after they left, Tiina hung around and we drank the rest of the champagne from the mimosas and just chatted and listened to some blues. I finally felt like I could rest!
Today I did rest. I stayed in bed and watched crap TV for most of the day. Made myself a waffle and some coffee and lounged some more.
I did eventually go out and get some groceries at Granville Island. For anyone who's been there on a weekend (packed hell) the time to go is on a rainy Monday night an hour before closing. It's not busy at all! I got some gooseberries, maple cheddar, veggies, baked ricotta, marinated artichokes and other veggies and goodies.
Then I went for an oil change and I didn't let the guy upgrade me on ANYTHING. I hate that. Just do the oil change. Actually, he said everything looked good except my air filter in behind my glove compartment. I didn't even know there was one in there. I didn't let him change it. He showed it to me and it looks like it just need a good vacuum, not super dirty at all.
Anyways I am totally rambling. Off to bed now. Back to work tomorrow.
Les sighs.

I knew about the air filter too, it's pretty common in newer cars for the cabin air.
I've given up on Granville Island on the weekends, I only go during the week now.
I totally agree with you about how things exhaust you more in your 30s. I went to bed at 9 pm this Friday, and I didn't even have the excuse of crazy extra hours at work.
Sounds like you had lots of fun with your friends this weekend though. The soccer game looks like fun. I've yet to go to a TFC match.
It's great to have you back blogging! ;)
I love the line "i picked up a waffle iron and my sister-in-law on the way..."
I wish I could have been at your brunch, it sounds like it was a blast!
It has a total European feel to it. Wow!
I'm tired after reading about your week....not because it was boring...I meant because it was sooo busy....get it :)
You should really take a week off if you're able to, recharge your batteries and take some time for yourself!
My friend made pumpkin spice waffles once, delish!!!
This post had me at "salted meats".
Like Jabba, love that line about picking up a waffle iron and your sister in law.
Also, waffles? Epic win.
Cxx
Your life sounds exhausting.
When you brought up a waffle iron in your story, I thought of this scene in Mystery Men (despite the fact that I'm not a huge Dane Cook fan).
Hope you get to rest a little more soon.
